Welcome to the Bluegrass in the Park Folklife Festival, a cornerstone of cultural tradition nestled just sixty-odd miles from the birthplace of Bill Monroe, the revered "Father of Bluegrass" music. Our festival takes place in the picturesque Audubon Mill Park, beneath the canopy of ancient trees over two centuries old, beside the flowing waters of the Ohio River. This historic setting, in Henderson, Kentucky, proudly stands out for its resilience during the 1937 Flood, being the only city along the Ohio River that remained unflooded, a testament to our enduring community spirit.
Bluegrass in the Park Folklife Festival isn't just any festival; it's possibly the oldest ongoing free bluegrass festival in the United States. What began as a pure music celebration has blossomed into one of Kentucky's premier summer events, drawing attendees not just from across the nation, with all fifty states represented over the years, but also from around the globe. Our festival has welcomed guests from continents afar—Europe, Oceania, South America, and our neighbors from Canada and Mexico, drawn here by the magnetic pull of exceptional bluegrass talent.
While bluegrass music has now found a home worldwide, our festival serves as a vibrant reminder of its roots in Western Kentucky. It's a place of discovery, where the uninitiated become aficionados and the already enchanted deepen their appreciation. We're honored to be recognized as possibly the largest, ongoing, free bluegrass festival in the country. With your support, we're dedicated to maintaining this legacy, celebrating the rich tapestry of bluegrass music, and sharing it with the world, right from the heart of Henderson.
"I've attended countless music festivals, but Bluegrass in the Park holds a special place in my heart. There's something magical about the blend of soulful music, warm community vibes, and the scenic backdrop of Henderson. Each year feels like a reunion with old friends, set to the soundtrack of world-class bluegrass. It's not just an event; it's a cherished tradition that I look forward to every summer."
