The Township of Briley, Atlanta Area Chamber of Commerce, Walter Bungard, Luanne Bungard and/or any of their agents or sponsors are not responsible for loss of belongings, damage to properties or liable for any injury incurred during the festival.  I agree and hold harmless any of the above persons/entities in the event of injury or loss/damage of possessions.

Contest Rules:

 

Fiddle Contest:Acoustic Fiddles Only are allowed to compete. Follow the three-tune format with a limit of three minutes per tune.  Contestants will be judged on 1. Waltz; 2. Tune of Choice; and 3. Hoedown (any fast tune in 2/4 or 4/4 time appropriate for square or contra-dancing such as a reel, fast hornpipe, breakdown or similar tune).

 

Banjo Contest:Only 5 string Banjos may compete.  No electrical instruments for contestants.  Follow a two-tune format with a limit of three minutes per tune. Contestants will be judged on 1. Traditional Bluegrass tune; 2. Tune of choice.

 

Guitar:Acoustic guitars only are allowed to compete with finger picking or flat picking allowed. Follow a two-tune format with a limit of three minutes per tune.  Contestants will be judged on 1. Traditional bluegrass tune; 2. Tune of choice.

 

Mandolin:Acoustic mandolins only are allowed to compete.  Follow a two-tune format with a limit of three minutes per tune.  Contestants will be judged on 1. Traditional bluegrass tune; 2. Tune of choice.

 

Band Scramble: For fun only, no prize money. Acoustic instruments only are allowed to compete. Each performer puts his/her name in “hat” labeled for his/her instrument. One name is drawn from each hat to form a band. “Bands” are posted at the entry/sign in area and will perform in the three-tune format 1. Traditional bluegrass instrumental; 2. Traditional Bluegrass vocal; 3. Tune of choice.


 

In an effort to judge the contests objectively and equally, the following criteria will be considered by the judges and assigned point value in each area:

1.  Arrangement (40 points); Contestant’s version of the tunes selected.  Is it appropriate to the tune and instrument?  Difficulty and originality will be considered.

2.  Execution, tuning (40 points): Fingering, picking and dynamics will be considered.  Is the instrument in tune?

3.    Spirit (10 points):  The music should be played with life and feeling.  It should not appear listless nor should it drag.

4.  Overall impression (10 points):  The general effect of the contestant’s performance and audience reaction.
